Principles of this book are nothing ground breaking and the writing is ok. However, the writer says he is keeping these culturally secret wisdoms and publishing them, which I think is horrible marketing. And the way he blames society for its ills through all of his "dream" examples is too easy a way to try to hit a broad target identify with what he is saying. If you want something simplistic to try to explain basic concepts, this might be for you. If you already feel you are an educated thinking and looking to expand your mind and be more tolerant while still analyzing your own reactions, this is way below your reading level. I will be giving these books away to my 9yo niece.
I bought this set because I borrowed The Four Agreements from my boyfriend and fell in love with the book. This is a really good buy if you're like me and will only buy books in new condition from trusted sellers, since you easily save $10+ compared to buying each individually.As some of the other reviewers mentioned, the other two books can be somewhat repetitive of The Four Agreements. It's like he takes one concept mentioned in the Four Agreements, and expand and write a whole book on it. But for people who like to re-read books over and over again, like me, the "repetitive" portions only serve to help understand the ideas even better, so although it wasn't three completely new and separate enlightening experiences, I recommend this set to anyone who like Don Miguel Ruiz.
It changed my life perspective. I am more accepting of people total selves and take things way less personally. Overall, I am a more relaxed person.
Great work, must read! Too often I'm "put-off" by conventional spiritual/religious teaching, b/c it is grounded in, what we come to learn from Ruiz, is a "diversion or domestication, a hook of our attention, or an agreement not reflective of truth". There is so much practical wisdom to be learned from reading these books, but the primary teaching from what I've read so-far, is that we are "taught our belief system" we hold so dear and sacrosanct; From infancy through adult-hood, our culture screams this "programming" to us, resulting in our having false belief systems, largely built upon lies. Such an example would be, that in order to be successful. you must have an "esteemed work position", based on the reward of your hard work. Much of the time, such success is predicated on one having a lot of money. We are taught that we must "aspire and attain" to be successful, b/c we aren't such at birth. Ruiz exposes the lie of this great "domestication", by revealing that we are "already perfect" and made in the image of God, it's not something we have to "re-gain" or something that "isn't attainable, b/c as we so often use the excuse of our 'sinful nature' that makes us 'merely man and fallible and susceptible to sin'", we continue-on with this false "collective agreement"; Such leads to judgments of everything Sin v. Not, right v wrong, uglyl v. pretty, etc..etc. et al), living in the future and the past, and a host of maladies that affect our present-day culture. This is the first great lie we are taught, and it results in a host of proceeding problems, from self-esteem issues, to hegemony ladder-climbing where the top is never really reached. We are all perfect "the way we are", and we don't have to be anything for anybody, period! Just remember to:1) Be impeccable with your word!2) Don't take anything personally (it's not all about you, but each of us has our own dream and version of how we view ourself)3) Don't assume anything (Be clear with your communications, don't be afraid to ask questions and avoid confusion, suppression of thoughts, and consequent drama)4) Always do your BEST!This leads to happiness, contentment, and the natural enjoyment of our lives, as God made us originally to be!Ruiz calls his teaching, Toltec wisdom, but as he also says, it's co-joined with many of the great wisdom traditions found the world over! They all essentially say, in their own unique way, how to be free and happy, and thus, how the collective dream is made so, and that means the Planet and all her Species! That's the Garden of Eden that has been lost, by mankind's collective "domestication and delusion" if we continue-on perpetuating this first, cardinal agreement.Que lo pasas bien por todos nosotros!
Great read! The Four Agreements is full of reminders and sound advice. My therapist recommended I read it and it's a book I will go back to and read several times over the years. I haven't read the other books yet but I'm looking forward to them. I'm giving 5 stars for The Four Agreements. Highly recommend. I was surprised how many of my friends have read it, some of them multiple times. It has spawned some great discussion.
BeI am.The language of God written in a soft, confident voice. The books are small. I thought they'd be a quick-read and 'Poof!' I'd be enlightened. 'Bring on the next one!' It's not working out that way. These books are making me Think. Evaluate. Rumenate. deep sigh. I am so glad I bought them. The seller was great. The transaction was easy and the delivery was speedy.
Must read for people seeking to find self confidence and direction. If you're willing to make a few changes, here you go.
Simple language and a great challenge!I like the simple language that explained the four agreements. This book challenges the reader to focus on making "self" better. At least two of the agreements had been emphasized with my son and will be emphasized with my granddaughter. I am interested in living the four agreements.
I shared the signature book in this set with my teenage grandchildren. They understood the relevance of these four agreements to other agreements they must make in their lives. The agreements were easy to understand and discuss.
